Gregory J. Hayes

July 22, 1946 - April 13, 2024

Gregory J. Hayes, 77, passed from this earth into the arms of our Lord on Saturday, April 13, 2024. He was alongside his beloved wife of 57 years. Born and raised in Mahanoy City, Pennsylvania, son of the late Mary (nee Zavitsky) and Alfred E. Hayes, he was a resident of Levittown for 12 years prior to moving to Red Hill, Pennsylvania. While in Levittown, Greg was employed at U.S. Steel, ITT Nesbitt, and later United Engineers, Marcor. He was also employed as an estimator and project manager on numerous faraway jobs, living in Seattle, Key West, Tampa, Jacksonville, and Houston — always with his Honey by his side.

Greg was a jack of all trades. From cars, electric, carpentry, and his least favorite, plumbing, he always jumped at an opportunity to lend a hand. Greg was a founding member of Valley Soccer Club, coached soccer for too many years to count, and enjoyed attending his sons’ games into their college years. He also enjoyed games of Sequence, Rummicube, and Canasta, and was a devoted Philadelphia Eagles fan. Greg would also often be seen working in the garden alongside Roseann in the summer. He attended St. Philip Neri Church on Klinerd Road, where he served as an usher and altar server, was a member of the Knights of Columbus, served on the board of Catholic Family Life Center for 5 years, and was Vice President of Levittown Jaycees in the 70s.

He is survived by his loving wife, Roseann Hayes, and his three sons, Patrick Hayes of Utah, Christopher Hayes of Red Hill, and Eric Hayes, and his partner, Deborah, of Norristown. He will be sadly missed by his two granddaughters, Kiley and Sammy, who were the light of his life. Greg was also an uncle to many loving nieces and nephews, whom he managed to spend vacations with in Avalon, and a brother to Danny, and his wife, Nancy, Fran, and his wife, Linda, Tommy, and his wife, Eleanor, and his favorite and only sister, Margaret Orwigsburg, whom he played many board games with.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass on Saturday, April 20, 2024, 11am at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, 1325 Klinerd Rd, Pennsburg, PA. Interment, private. Visitation hours will be held at the Church from 9:30am until time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Greg’s name to Mother of Mercy House, P.O. Box 14676, Philadelphia, PA 19134. Arrangements are under the direction of Wade Funeral Home, Bristol Borough.

So much to say, for those of you that knew him, there were a few things he loved besides his Wife and Best Friend, his Children and Grand-kids. You know he liked to Smile, Listen and fix things. Whether he was fixing a car, something in the house or mending someone's feelings. He would always listen. Other things he loved, coaching Soccer, Playing Chess, a Good Steak, Good Wine and an occasional beer and of course spending time with Mom. Whenever they came to visit me out West he was always up for a lil' Adventure. I feel sorry for those that didn't know him. His is a loss that is felt beyond our family. He had an impact with so many of my friends and extended family. At 65 he retired he was first diagnosed with Colon Cancer he proceeded to fight three more types of Cancer for 13 more years. Tomorrow is not Promised so tell your Family and Friends you Love them. Dad I miss you and love you. May you find Peace and Light.

Greg was an integral part of the Catholic Family Life Center family, assisting wherever he could. He took it to a higher level when we asked him to play a superhero at a CFLC dinner which was perfect; he was a superhero in all ways to all of us through the years. He will be missed.

I couldn't have asked for a better brother-in-law. Just a super guy who will be missed by everyone who knew him even a little bit. Rest easy, Greg.
