Steven James Sootkoos passed away peacefully at his home in Bristol Borough on Sunday, December 21, 2025, surrounded by love. Born on March 17, 1950 in Northampton, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Marian and Alphonse Sootkoos. Steve graduated from Bordentown Regional High School, Class of 1968 and went on to graduate from Rider College in 1972. While at Rider, he was an ROTC Member and following his graduation, he proudly served in the United States Army in both Active Duty and Reserves. He was employed as an Administrator (Warden) for the New Jersey Department of Corrections, retiring in 2005.
Steve is survived by his loving wife, Michele (nee Mancini) Sootkoos; one son, Paul Sootkoos of Colorado; and his siblings, Lisa Conlon and Jon Sootkoos. He will be sadly missed by his niece and nephew, Michele Yezzie and Paul Yezzie, whom he considered his own children after the death of their father, Patrick. Michele and Paul were also instrumental in caring for Steve during his illness. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Louise Samec, Yvonne Puliti, and Maria Yezzie; his best friends, Terry and Brenda Moore; along with many nieces, nephews, and his pets, Sonny and Boo.
Along with his parents, Steve was also predeceased by his mother-in-law, Florence Mancini, and brothers-in-law, James Puliti, Patrick Yezzie, and George Samec.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass on Monday, December 29, 2025, 11am at St. Mark Church, Bristol Borough. Inurnment will follow at St. Mark Church Columbarium. Friends may pay their respects from 9:30am until time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mark Church, 1025 Radcliffe Street, Bristol, PA 19007, Fisher House Foundation, or ACCT Philly.
