John William Crines

August 8, 1983 – March 22, 2023

John William Crines, a beloved husband, son, brother, and uncle, passed away unexpectedly on March 22, 2023, at the age of 39. Born on August 8, 1983, in Levittown, Pennsylvania, he was the cherished son of John Christopher Crines and Jacklyn Holden.

John's life was marked by his strong core values, which served as the foundation of his character and guided him throughout his journey. He was known for his resilience, determination, and unwavering sense of duty, both in his military and civilian roles.

A proud graduate of Harry S. Truman High School, John went on to further his education at Grand Canyon University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master of Science in Nursing, specializing in Nursing Leadership. His passion for helping others led him to enlist in the U.S. Navy in 2006, serving as a Corpsman during the Iraqi War. He was stationed with the Marine Corps on Camp Pendleton, and served in Iraq providing emergency medical treatment on the frontlines.

In 2010, John completed his service but dedication to his profession continued when he joined Scripps Health in San Diego, California. He began his career there as a Licensed Vocational Nurse in the Neurology department and eventually rose to the position of Acting Director of Clinical Operations. John's hard work, professionalism, and compassion touched the lives of many patients and colleagues.

In his personal life, John met his future husband, Victor, while both were serving in the military. They began dating in May 2009 and were married in January 2014. Together they shared their home with their two beloved boxers, Edison and Indie. Known for his loyalty and devotion to friends and family, John was always the life of the party. His love for his husband, family, and friends provided a source of strength and comfort in difficult times.

Throughout his life, John had a passion for learning and discovering new experiences. In 2016, he joined the Hash House Harriers while supporting his husband in Okinawa, Japan. In John's free-time he enjoyed playing Dungeons and Dragons, playing video games, singing karaoke, and gardening.

John is survived by his loving husband; his mother, Jacklyn Holden Crines Dambach; stepfather, Mitch Dambach; mother-in-law, Nora Erickson; father-in-law, Victor Perez Senior; sisters, Jennifer Crines and Ellen Crines; sisters-in-laws, Victoria Gomez and Devin Riley; brothers-in-laws, Gerardo Gomez dad and John Riley; nieces, Mikayla, Mya, Lilyonna, Gisel, Talayha, and Pia; and nephews, Jules, Jay, and Kingston.

John loves this story from when he was about 5 years old so that’s the one I’m going to share…Being the youngest of John’s Aunts, I was usually the one called for babysitting duty. So one night after putting him to bed I went out to the living room to watch a movie. As I sat there engrossed in what I was watching, I had no idea what was going on behind me. Apparently John had realized that he forgot to show me his fish & that now was the perfect time to do it. So, he got out of bed, found something to stand on at the fish tank & went fishing. Literally!!!! Next thing I hear, “Aunt Trace ya wanna see my fish???!!!”(In the most excited voice imaginable). I turned my head around & I swear I watched this boy scoop his hand in that tank, pull out a fish & he’s now handing it to me with a smile from ear to ear. I was like, “JOHN, PUT THAT FISH BACK IN THAT FISH TANK RIGHT NOW!!!!” Thankfully for the fish, he did. Him standing there with that fish in his hand & that smile on his face will be embedded in my mind forever. I love you sweet boy! ❤️💔

I just don’t have the words. Every death hurts, but this is different for me. Our cousin crew grew up like siblings and bestfriends. All of us cousins are still in shock and broken hearted. When I tell people that “I took my cousin to prom” they look at me and laugh like, “What kind of hillbilly family do you have?” This amazing human was not only my cousin, but one of my bestfriends and there was no one else I’d rather dance, laugh, and make memories with than him. So yee haw, pass me the grits, sweet tea, fried chicken, corn bread, and hush puppies. I’d take my cousin to prom again and again. I have never met another person like my cousin. His humor, quick-wittedness, dancing abilities, compassion, intelligence, humbleness, bravery, confidence, drive, and sense of adventure will absolutely never be forgotten. He is someone that stands out from the crowd. He really is one of a kind. John, you were such a bright light in this dark world. Heaven got sooo much brighter with you in it. Dance, play the piano, tell your jokes, put on the incredibly hilarious show that we all know you will up there, but don’t forget to watch over us down here. I love you cuz cuz!
