James J. Mooney, Sr. passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 at Buckingham Valley Nursing Home. He was 87 years old. Born in Philadelphia, son of the late James J. and Claire (nee Hoyler) Mooney, he was a lifelong Philadelphia resident. Mr. Mooney was a graduate of West Catholic High School, and retired after 40 years as a Letter Carrier for the United States Postal Service. He was an animal lover, enjoyed going to the racetrack, and was an avid Philly sports fan.

Husband of the late Elizabeth "Betty" Mooney, he is survived by his sons, James Mooney and his wife, Ann, and Brian Mooney, and his granddaughters, Kateri Mooney and Elizabeth Hilmoe. He is also survived by one brother, Reverend Dennis Mooney, one sister, Maureen Maher, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was also predeceased by two sisters, Claire Gulli and Margaret "Peggy" Giordano.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, 11am at St. Mark Church, 1025 Radcliffe Street, Bristol Borough. Interment, Resurrection Cemetery, Bensalem. Friends may call Wednesday morning from 9:30am until time of Mass at the Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Wade Funeral Home, Bristol Borough.
