Ruth Dougherty

Ruth Dougherty (nee Weaver) passed away peacefully on October 22, 2011, surrounded by her loving family at Statesman Nursing Home. She would have been 83 on October 27, 2011. Being an original Levittown homeowner she took pride in her love of home and family and was a homemaker all of her life. Mrs. Dougherty loved gardening, crocheting and sewing. Her greatest gift was loving her children and grandchildren. Born in Danville, Pa to the late Joseph and Elizabeth Weaver, she was preceded in death by her lifelong love, her husband Francis of 52 years, whom she met in 1943 while she and her sister offered a sailor, walking on a Sunbury Bridge, a lift to the local fair, while he was home on leave.

The last of 5 siblings, she was preceded in death by Robert; Charles; Mae; and her twin sister, Betty. She is survived by her daughter, Judy Brackin and her husband, Donald, her grandchildren, Lisa Foley and her husband, Patrick, Andy Korhonen and his fiancee, Cindy with daughters, Jessica, Alexus, and Ashley, who lived with her the last few years, her son, John Dougherty and his wife, Tina, grandson, Johnnie, grand-daugher, Christina Cook and her husband, Tim, with daughter, Miranda, along with 6 other grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren, along with a brother-in-law, Herbert Faux and several nieces and nephews. To a dear family friend, Ronda, a very special thank you, and the family also wishes to say thanks to the staff of Statesman Nursing Home and to Odyssey Hospice for their loving and compassionate care and support.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing on Wednesday evening, November 2, 2011, 7-9:00pm at the Wade Funeral Home, 1002 Radcliffe Street., Bristol Borough. Additionally a viewing will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, November 4, at the Brady Funeral Home, 320 Church Street, Danville, Pa. Interment, Odd Fellows Cemetery, Danville. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alzheimers Association, Delaware Valley Chapter, 100 N. 17th Street, 2nd Floor, Philadelphia, Pa 19103.
