Hubert A. Nelson
Bristol Boro Resident
Hubert A. "Bub" Nelson, age 93, died suddenly Monday, October 29, 2007 at his home on Nelson Court. Born in Bristol Boro, he has been a lifelong resident. Mr. Nelson graduated from St. Mark High School, was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving in WWII, and was employed by Carl W. Nelson, Builder. He was proud to have built many homes in Bristol. Mr. Nelson was a devout Catholic and lifelong member of St. Mark Church, where he served as an Usher, Bingo worker, and volunteered for various projects. Mr. Nelson was the oldest and longest active member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Div. No.1, Bristol, having served as Treasurer for many years. He was also a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Bristol Lodge No. 1169, the Golden Marks Seniors, and the Levittown Seniors, where he served as Treasurer for 25 years. Mr. Nelson was strongly devoted to God, his family, and the town of Bristol. He attended Mass daily and always looked forward to the weekly Sunday morning family breakfasts.
Husband of the late Gertrude (nee Roe) Nelson and father of the late Michael Nelson, he is survived by his children: Thomas Nelson and his wife, Phyllis; Janice Grundahl and her husband, John W.; Rosemary Howley and her husband, Rich; Andrew Nelson; Joseph Nelson and his wife, Linda; and Margaret Bartuska and her husband, Mark. Pop will be sadly missed by his 11 grandchildren: Amy Mattis (Rich), Kimberly Gondos (Tim), Rich Howley (Albrey), Michelle Grundahl, Jennifer Gaynor (Rich), Matthew Nelson, Mark Bartuska, Jr., Christina Nelson, Christopher Bartuska, Tracy Nelson, and Tierney Fisher and also his five great-grandchildren: C.J. and Erika Kotarba, Timmy Gondos, Madison Howley, and Baby Gaynor on the way; one sister, Elizabeth Nelson; longtime companion Mary Roarty, along with many nieces and nephews. Mr. Nelson was also predeceased by two sisters, Mildred Girard and Mary Darr and two brothers, John and Leonard Nelson.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass on Friday, November 2, 2007, 10:00am at St. Mark Church. Interment, Our Lady of Grace Cemetery, Langhorne. Friends may call Thursday evening 7-9:00pm and Friday morning 9-9:45am at the Wade Funeral Home, 1002 Radcliffe Str., Bristol Boro.
