George A. Smith, Jr.
Bensalem Resident

George A. Smith, Jr., age 78 of Bensalem, Pa., passed away Sunday, August 26, 2007 at Holy Redeemer Hospital.  Born and raised in Philadelphia, he has been a Bensalem resident for the past 46 years.  Mr. Smith was employed as a Supervisor in the Truck Terminal for the United States Postal Service, retiring in 1985 after 33 years of service.  He was an Airman First Class in the  U.S. Air Force, serving in the Korean War.  Mr. Smith was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Bensalem, where he was an usher.  He was extremely involved in sports, especially basketball, and played for LaSalle High School and the Post Office Team. He also enjoyed softball, baseball and was an assistant with the Bensalem Recreation Department, where he was affectionately known as “Coach”.

Son of the late George A. Sr. and Sadie (nee O’Ryan) Smith, he is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Anita (nee Farrell) Smith, his 6 children, George A. Smith, III and his wife, Susan of Buckingham, Bill Smith of Bensalem, Anita Fennessey and her husband, Tim of Warminster, Kevin Smith and his wife, Christin of Levittown, Anthony Smith and his wife, Suzanne of Bristol, and Shawn Smith and his wife, Mindy of N. Hollywood, Ca., and 13 grandchildren, George A. Smith, IV, Bill Smith, Jr., Bridget, Colin, Katie, Brian, Gillian, and Michael Fennessey, Kaylin, Kevin, Jr., and Courtney Smith, Olivia and Anthony Smith, Jr. .  He is also survived by his 3 brothers, Jack, Jerry and Joseph Smith and 4 sisters, Joan Schaffling, Gloria Murtha, Marie Comitale and Helen Meskill along with several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass on Saturday, September 1, 2007, 10:00am at Our Lady of Fatima Church.  Interment, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.  Friends may call Friday evening 7-9:00pm and Saturday morning 8:15-9:00am at the Wade Funeral Home, 1002 Radcliffe Street, Bristol Boro.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Our Lady of Fatima Church, 2933 Street Road, Bensalem, Pa   19020
