Rita Kennedy Magee
Levittown Resident
Rita Kennedy Magee, age 84, died peacefully on Friday, February 1, 2008, surrounded by her large and loving family. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Pa, Rita was an original resident of Levittown, Pa. For many years, Rita was an active member of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church. After graduation from St. Ann’s Commercial School in Philadelphia, Rita worked for several years at Yale & Towne in Philadelphia and Penn Fruit Grocery Store in Levittown. Rita ma rried the love of her life, James “Jim” in 1945. Their strong and loving marriage was cut short with the death of Jim in 1970. As a result of being a widowed mother of 10 children, Rita returned to work and was employed by Bristol Township Schools as a teacher’s aid until her retirement in 1983. Rita was an exceptional wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister and friend. She had a special relationship with many of her grandchildren who spent countless hours with her. Throughout her life, Rita offered support when and to whoever needed it, whether it was time, advice, money or just being there. She went above and beyond for everyone. Everyone who knew Rita will remember her as one of the first organizers of the annual fun-filled Jersey shore vacations, eventually encompassing dozens of people to her home, which was always the center of activity as well as her renown holiday parties.
As a matriarch of a large and loyal Irish family, Rita was predeceased by her husband, James, son, Brian, grand-daughter, Shannon, son-in-law, Jack McLaughlin, 1 brother, James Kennedy and 2 sisters, Mary Dowling and Margaret Luongo. She is survived by 7 sons, James, Kieran, Joseph and his wife, Eileen, Jerry, John, Richard, Paul and his wife, Kathy, 3 daughters, Marita McLaughlin, Patricia Curran, Maura Dougherty and her husband, Tom, 19 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Rita is also survived by Nancy Phinn and her family whose lifelong and special relationship brought much joy to her life.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass on Tuesday, February 5, 2008, 12 Noon at St. Mark Church, Bristol Boro. Interment, Resurrection Cemetery.
